Comedian and anti-vaxxer Rob Schneider’s ads for State Farm were recently pulled after he made his controversial views on the subject public.

Schneider has followed that up with this quote attributed to George Washington:

"If the Freedom of Speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter," George Washington

— Rob Schneider (@RobSchneider) September 24, 2014

If Schneider was referring to his constitutional right to freedom of speech being being taken away, he was offered some reminders about this particular situation:

@RobSchneider No one said there wouldn't be consequences for what you say though. Don't pretend that's part of the 1st amendment.

@RobSchneider "Freedom of Speech" is to prevent the government from arresting you, not protecting you from the consequences of your speech.

— Michael Cooper (@cynedyr) September 24, 2014

@RobSchneider State Farm has freedom of speech too. Do you not get that?

— Matt R Allen (@MattRAllen) September 24, 2014

@RobSchneider Exactly how is your 1st Amendment rights being curtailed? You're obviously free to spout your ignorant views anytime you want.

— Kenny (@WarlockKenny) September 24, 2014

@RobSchneider you have freedom of speech, and they have freedom to ignore you…

— Sean Reed (@kittykaraoke) September 24, 2014

@RobSchneider You are free to say what you want. People are free to say what they want about your misinformed, ignorant opinions as well.

@Cameron_Gray @RobSchneider Private biz should be able to hire/fire whomever they want for any reason. Ask Thomas Sowell.

— Eleanor Roosevelt (@doggrandma) September 24, 2014

@robschneider freedom of speech means that the government won't penalize you for speaking – not that you aren't responsible for your words.

— MarkCC (@MarkCC) September 24, 2014

@cynedyr @RobSchneider bingo. To bring up freedom of speech because your unsupported views got you fired is disingenuous.

— Dennis Gutknecht (@eqfan592) September 24, 2014

@RobSchneider lol nobody took away your freedom of speech, movie star.
