Another day, another Drudge siren announcing a potential VP pick for GOP candidate Mitt Romney.

This time the rumor reportedly originated with President Obama.
President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!
“The president wasn’t joking,” the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.
Please tell us the “top fundraiser” wasn’t a Bain investor with ties to Harry Reid.
White House press secretary Jay Carney denied Drudge’s report and slammed the source.
Carney, on Obama and Petraeus: "I can say with absolute confidence that such an assertion has never been uttered by the president."

Carney knocks down Drudge rumor re: Obama's comments on Romney picking Petraeus. "Be mindful of your source," he tells reporters.

Ah, yes. Perhaps reporters should stick with sources like Carney who can’t remember Brian Terry’s name.
No comment from the Romney campaign:
Asked if Petraus and Romney met recently in NH, campaign tells me "We don't discuss VP"

After Drudge posted his exclusive, Petraeus shares climbed on Intrade.
And there's the Drudge Siren! Cue the Petraeus bubble on @intrade

Petraeus Romney VP contract on intrade up 700% today (still at a lowly 4% chance though) http://t.co/TEvxPimi

Yeah, that’s not gonna last.
Next Drudge siren: "CONDI, PETRAEUS, WHATEVS…"
